Wedding And Red Carpet Trends By Reshma Gangji

We asked Bollywood designer Reshma Gangji to tell us a bit about the red carpet and bridal fashion trends that are making a mark in the fashion industry nowadays.

Asian fashion is showing a blend of traditional and western styles. While traditional dresses are predominant in bridal wear, gowns are increasingly becoming a popular trend. Western silhouettes are enhanced with traditional embroideries.

The fabrics that are coming back into the spotlights are silk and lace for all traditional dressing. Lace is being used to add delicate touches of embroidery instead of net.

The silhouettes trending are voluminous skirts with peekaboo cuts. Where décolletage is used, it is easy to have a lace wrap or shrug handy for the chilly minutes. Putting inserts of lace close to your best feature is a certain way to get it noticed.

THE RED CARPET

The same rules apply to brides and the red carpet. Except that perhaps the red carpet allows you to be more adventurous. Layers of silk, voluminous skirts, thigh-high slits and deep necklines, à la JLo, that’s the stuff couture dresses are made of this season.

Keeping warm for chilly indoors, would mean a shrug or throw with some silk. Go for a high slit instead of the deep neckline if you would rather have your arms free. The slit can be used for effect while in reality keeping less skin exposed to the cold.
